Let’s Play

Frisbee Horse-Shoes

How To Play

Setup

  • To set up, position hoops 30 feet apart.

  • Each player must throw from behind the hoop.

  • The game starts with an agreed-upon method to determine which player or team goes first.

  • Games can be played 1 on 1 or in teams of 2 with teammates at opposite ends.

Gameplay

  • Players take turns throwing their Frisbees towards the hoops at the opposite end.

  • Players alternate tossing Frisbees with the person or team who scored in the last round throwing first.

  • The score is tallied after each round, and the first player or team to reach or exceed 21 points at the end of a round wins.

Scoring

  • Cancellation scoring applies, and point totals are calculated at the end of each round.

  • A Frisbee Thrown through the hoop scores 5 points.

  • A Frisbee touching or leaning on the stake scores 3 points.

  • If no disc goes through the hoop and there is no leaning Frisbee, the closest Frisbee to the stake scores 1 point if it is within the distance of the attached cord length.

  • A player/team may score with multiple Frisbees in the same round if they have two throws that score higher than the opponent’s highest-scoring throw.

History

Frisbee Horseshoes combines the Frisbee, which WHAM-O began selling under that name in 1957, with the classic game of horseshoes. The version of the game pictured is from 1980, but the game began selling in 1970. Frisbee Horseshoes was created by WHAM-O as an expansion of their catalog of outdoor games. WHAM-O was founded in 1948 by Richard Knerr and Arthur Melin and was located in Pasadena, California. The company is now based in Carson, California, and continues to release new and classic outdoor games.
