It’s Time to Play
BRU BAG
How To Play
Setup
Objective: Be the first team to close out the opponent’s board by successfully tossing bags through the open holes.
Teams: 2 teams consisting of 1 or 2 players each. Each team must have an equal number of players.
Setup: Teams stand together, behind or to the side of their BruBag board, opposite their opponents. Boards are set approximately 20 feet apart facing each other.
Bags: 2 official bags provided. Players toss one bag at the opposing team’s board simultaneously to determine the starting team.
Gameplay
First round starts with the team that sinks the first hole.
Previous winners go first in subsequent games/tournaments.
Each teammate tosses one bag at the opposing team’s board.
If playing with 1 player teams, each player tosses 2 bags.
Teams cannot throw bags simultaneously.
Bags must land on the board or go through a hole to be counted.
Bags hitting the ground are out of play and must be removed.
Bags are “sunk” if they fall completely through any open hole.
If both players sink separate holes in one round, they get both bags back.
Board Reset and Re-rack: If a covered hole becomes uncovered, reset the board before the second player throws.
One re-rack per game allowed at the beginning of a team’s round.
Once a bag is sunk, the hole must be immediately covered.
Defender Rules: Defenders can only touch the board to cover a sunk hole or remove an out-of-play bag.
Defenders cannot interfere directly but can distract the thrower without contact.
Defenders must remain behind the tossing line and out of the field of play.
Scoring
Winning: Close out every hole on the opponent’s board to win.
If both players make the same hole in one round, it's an instant win.
Redemption and Overtime: Losing team gets a chance at redemption.
To force overtime, the losing team must close out the opponent’s remaining holes in one round.
In overtime, each team removes the front three covers closest to the logo from their board.
The team that closed out their opponent’s board first gets the first turn in overtime.
Normal rules apply in overtime.
End of Game: If the losing team doesn’t close out the opponent’s remaining holes in overtime, the game is over.
