How To Play
Setup
Game play can be one on one or teams of two.
A coin flip determines who throws first.
Towers are set up 12’-15’ apart.
Opposing players stand on the same side, alternating throws.
Gameplay
At the end of the round, the player with the ball on top earns 2 points for the top ball and 1 point for all other balls in the tower.
The player/team without a ball on top does not score.
The scoring team throws first in the next round.
The first team to score 15 points without going over 16 wins.
If a player does bust, no points are awarded to either team for that round, and the game goes on from the existing point totals.
This is the traditional method of play. There are other variations of play.
Scoring
Scoring involves earning 2 points for the top ball and 1 point for all other balls in the tower for the player with the ball on top at the end of the round.
History
Bob Schirmer invented the game of On Top Ball Toss after leaving his job due to downsizing in 2016. Instead of going back to the grind he chose to follow a passion and On Top Ball Toss was born. Wanting to create a game that was competitive to the last throw he designed the tower and style of play to allow the last person throwing to always have a chance.
A closer distance of play than some games allows for people of all ages to play and be competitive. Finishing on top in the game is also a metaphor for finishing on top in life. With the slogan of “It’s how you finish” Schirmer hopes that On Top Ball Toss brings people together to play a fun game but also instills a positive message that you always have a chance to finish on top.
The game has gone through multiple versions ranging from wood, to metal, to plastic. Ball sizes have also varied slightly from version to version.
