Pétanque
How To Play
Setup
Teams and Boules
Played in two teams.
Each team has two sets of differently marked boules.
Team Options
Teams of two (3 boules each).
Teams of three (2 each).
One against one (3 each).
Setting Up
Draw a 50cm diameter circle on the ground (or use a coiled rope).
A player from team one stands in the circle.
Gameplay
Starting the Game
The player from team one throws the jack (wooden boule) 6-10m from the rope.
The first boule is thrown by team one, aiming to be closest to the jack.
Gameplay
A player from team two tries to get a boule closer.
If successful, they 'have the point,' and play returns to team one.
If not, team two continues to throw until they gain the point, then play passes back.
Play continues until one team exhausts all their boules.
Scoring
The team with the closest boule to the jack wins the round.
Points are awarded for each boule closer to the jack than the other team's nearest boule.
Starting a New Round
The winning team draws a new circle around the jack.
They throw the jack to start the next round.
Game End
Play concludes when one team reaches 13 points.
